Great success of the “Lange Nacht der Forschung” at the Insitue of Immunology!

(Vienna, 27. 05. 2024) The Institute of Immunology (IFI) and the Institute of Hygiene and Applied Immunology (HAI) together joined the "Lange Nacht der Forschung" (the Long Night of the Research) held on the 24th of May. At our base, the Vienna Competence Center, we presented our research activities ranging from immunology and allergology to bioinformatics. Moreover, several hands-on stations as well as laboratory tours were offered. We are very happy that we could welcome more than 300 guests and would sincerely thank all the people who visited our institutions!

ImmunoKomm – All about communication!

Communication about the basics of immunity and how the immune system works has multiplied with the emergence of the coronavirus, whether from experts directly or via the media and on social media. Vaccination skepticism and the spreading of fake news about the coronavirus are particularly widespread among the younger target group. This is why the "ImmunoKomm" project started right here: Scientific information should be designed and communicated by young people for young people. In workshops and interactive sessions, students gained insights into journalistic work and professional communication from different perspectives - from traditional media to social media. The characteristics of target group-oriented communication were developed together with experts from media and communication. The young people then created their own contributions such as YouTube or Instagram videos or blog entries on immunological issues and content for their peer group. To do this, they worked together with scientists from the Institute of Immunology at the MedUni Vienna. In the Vienna Open Lab, the students were also able to work in a scientific lab and to test immunological methods themselves.
