The Institute of Immunology was founded in 1967 as the first research institution in German-speaking countries solely dedicated to immunology research. Today, it offers an excellent international research environment with almost 50 members from more than 15 countries. Our research goals are to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of immunological reactions and diseases. Researchers at the Institute aim to obtain a better understanding of how the immune system works and to use this knowledge as a basis for the development of new therapeutic approaches and diagnostic tools. Therefore, our scientific approaches focus on basic and translational research projects as well as on application-oriented research in human medicine.
The Institute is structured into 5 research divisions with 7 research groups. Moreover, the Institute of Immunology runs a Laboratory for Immunodiagnostics.
An important focus of the institute's activities is the academic teaching and training of the next generation of scientists.
