Hoch angesehen sind die Arbeiten über die Erstbeschreibung von einer Reihe von Zelloberflächenrezeptoren humaner Immunzellen (wie CD31, CD147, etc.) und die Beiträge zum Verständnis der Signaltransduktion von Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-verankerten Plasmamembranproteinen. Letztere führten zur Entdeckung von GPI-Mikrodomänen oder Lipid-rafts in der Plasmamembran von Zellen. Heute nimmt man an, dass über diese Lipid-rafts die Zelle die Signaltransduktion, den Informationsfluss, von der Zellumgebung ins Zellinnere kontrolliert und steuert.
