Mission Statement
Our research focusses on the developement and application of trendsetting procedures for the analysis of health-related microbiological water quality.
The main emphasis is a wholistic, systemically orientated and ecological point of view as we study water-transmitted pathogenic microorganisms (Vibrio cholerae, Legionella and antibiotics-resistent bacteria especially), fecal indicator bacteria and the water's own microbiota.
The current projects make it possible to transfer new findings from the fields of basic and applied research to higher education and applied practice of authorities, water suppliers and companies.
The Department for Water Microbiology is part of the inter-universitary cooperation center for Water and Health (ICC Water & Health). Its head is the deputy of the division Water Quality and Health at the Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences in Krems.
