Professor Rudolf Valenta received the Charles Blackley Award for Promotion of the Allergy Specialty at the annual congress of the EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) 2026 in Istanbul in recognition of his manifold achievements and career-long notable contributions.
The EAACI Charles Blackley Award is a highly prestigious honor and recognizes outstanding European researchers and clinicians who have made significant contributions to the advancement and promotion of the allergy specialty in Europe. Charles Harrison Blackley (1820–1900), an English physician, is widely considered a pioneer of allergology for his groundbreaking experiments in the 1870s, which definitively proved that pollen was the primary cause of hay fever.
